Salads



The word salad is derived from the Latin word ‘herba salta’or salted herbs. Some of the most popular salads are Caesars salad ,,crab Louie/Louis salad, cobb salad,Waldorf salad panzanella ,coleslaw salad,nicoise and Olivier  salad can be directors friend or enemy depending on how loaded (or not)they are with heavy dressings .all kinds of leafy greens alone with carrots,tomatoes,red and green peppers ,sprouted beans, chick peas, kidney beans and mushrooms can be the starting point for you are salads mix and a very healthy alternative to fattening food  as long as you go slow some of the salad dressing that could turn your low- calorie healthy meal in to a high calorie ,fattening one. Two tablespoons of your favorite dressing can add 150 to 200 calories, 15 to 20 grams of fat, 200 to 600 mg of sodium. One of the ways you could avoid this is by using balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing or light, low-fat or fat-free dressing.



Coleslaw 

Ingredients
¼ red cabbages sliced thin
¼ green cabbages sliced thin
2 carrots peeled and grated
¼ cup low-fat mayonnaise
2 tbs sour cream
1 tbs cider vinegar
1 tbs sugar
Salt and black pepper to taste
Method 

Combined red and green cabbage ,and carrots .In a separate bowl  whisk together mayonnaise ,sour cream, cider vinegar ,sugar ,salt and pepper. add the dressing to cabbage mixture and toss well. cover with plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
